The Investec Challenge and The Six Nations International Rugby events will see O2 mobile customers using mobile ticketing technology to access an exclusive O2 VIP blueroom.
O2 will provide the ticketing service through its partnership with multimedia mobile interactive services provider, Mobile Interactive Group (MIG), the market leader in the UK.
O2 customers can text to receive exclusive VIP access - Fans are invited to text the key word "BLUEROOM" to the shortcode 64202 - In response they will receive a mobile barcode ticket allowing them access to the O2 VIP blueroom. Entry is gained by scanning the unique barcode from their mobile phone on Swiftpass kiosks, which will also issue beverage vouchers to the first 500 entrants.
Carlotta Zavanelli, Head of Sports Sponsorship, O2 says: "O2 values its customers and this is a great way of showing fans attending the match that we appreciate them. As individuals and businesses become inseparable from their mobiles, we want to make our phones as useful as possible. Working with Mobile Interactive Group, mobile ticketing is just one area where O2 can really add."
Barry Houlihan, Managing Director of Mobile Interactive Group commented: "MIG has worked with O2 on various projects such as the Live8 ticketing lottery, mobile ticketing for 5 International Rugby events in 2005 and most recently, the O2 Wireless Festival, where MIG provided multiple mobile interactive experiences, in dual locations. We see the demand for mobile ticketing expanding into music, additional sports and entertainment venues in the near future all over the UK. MIG are committed to delivering seamless solutions and will continue to push the boundaries."
Oliver Seal, CEO of Swiftpass enthuses: "Being able to provide both tickets and coupons that can be redeemed instantly has compelling benefits for stadiums and sporting events. Fans receive their tickets immediately and benefit from fast-track entry. It won’t be long before these events become completely paperless – a valuable proposition for both fans and organisers alike."
